"How Shall They Hear," Who Have Not Heard

THE PRAYER OF THE DAY:
Almighty God, by your power you gave hearing to the deaf, and loosed the tongues of the mute. By that same power, open our ears to hear your Word, and loose our tongues to speak that Word to those who have not heard, through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

CONFESSIONAL LITANY (from Isaiah 29 and 42):
P: The Lord has spoken through His prophet Isaiah, "These people draw near with their mouths and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me, and their fear of Me is a commandment of men learned by rote."

C: "Hear, you deaf, and look, you blind, that you may see! Who is blind as My servant, or deaf as My messenger who I send? He sees many things, but does not observe them; his ears are open, but he does not hear."

P: Heavenly Father, we confess that we have often approached your throne in routine worship.

C: Our mouths speak words of praise, but our minds are elsewhere.

P: When you speak to us, we often do not listen.

C: And we have failed to reach out as we should with Your Gospel of concern to all people.

P: Heal us; help us to hear and obey.

C: Forgive us, Father; show us again the Savior and the blood He shed for our healing. Move in us this hour to truly praise you with our whole heart and our whole mind.

P: The Lord has promised, "Behold, I will do marvelous things with this people,

C: Wonderful and marvelous!

P: In that day the deaf shall hear the words of a book,

C: And out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind shall see.

P: The meek shall obtain fresh joy in the Lord,

C: And the poor among men shall exult in the Holy One of Israel."

ALL: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit! As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen!
